CEN WS/BII 2

Following the successful adoption of the results of CEN WS/BII1, a second phase of the Workshop was launched in 2010. Based on inputs collected from several stakeholders, CEN WS/BII2 focused on capturing new and refining existing business requirements, providing a forum for governance and life cycle management.

The profiles further developed in this phase (http://cenbii.eu/deliverables/cen-bii-2/) are currently in use in several countries and will be further refined by end of 2016. Every update to the profiles is backward compatible, thus preserving the investments made by user communities.

Organisations interested in implementing the BII profiles (semantic layer) that already use UBL or UN/CEFACT standards (syntax layer) can therefore readily implement them.

During the lifetime of the workshop, the use of BII deliverables spread throughout Europe: the PEPPOL project (2008-2012), ePRIOR, and several national e-procurement initiatives in Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Spain and Italy.

The Workshop contributed to a number of EC policies and initiatives, such as the 2009 ICT Standardization Work Program, the e-tendering Expert Group, the 2014/24/EU Public Procurement Directive, the upcoming Directive on e-invoicing in public procurement, the European Multi-stakeholder Forum on e-invoicing, and the identification of the notification information based on the last public procurement Regulation 842/2011.
